Founded in 2001, the European Academy of Management (EURAM) has become today’s central platform and professional community for management researchers in Europe. It bundles top researchers in an interdisciplinary and international manner and offers open platforms for research and exchange.

Professor Kathrin M. Möslein, member of the Board of Directors at the Center for Leading Innovation & Cooperation (CLIC), has been Vice President of EURAM since 2007 and has been significantly involved in its strategic focus. “EURAM’s annual conference is the place to be for committed management researchers”, she underlines referring to the 2012 EURAM Conference which will take place at Erasmus University in Rotterdam between June 6 and 8, 2012 (www.euram2012.nl). HHL researchers are committed as co-creators of the EURAM Doctoral Colloquium (Kathrin Möslein and Hagen Habicht), the “Innovation” Special Interest Group (John Bessant and Kathrin Möslein), the “Service Innovation & Hybrid Value Creation” and the “Organizing Creativity for Innovation” (Bastian Bansemir) General Tracks as well as the EURAM Early Career Community. Professor Torsten Wulf and his team have been a fixed item in the program for years with their work on strategic management. Numerous EURAM Awards will be presented by HHL researchers, such as the TUM Research Excellence Awards of the Peter Pribilla Foundation by Professor Ralf Reichwald and the EURAM Doctoral Colloquium Awards by the organizers. With its research and initiatives in research promotion, HHL has been a central partner in the strong community of European management research. Follow the activities on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/euram.eecc) and become part of the EURAM community!

Under the coordination of the Gesellschaft für Arbeitsgestaltung, Personal- und Organisationsentwicklung mbH (Unique) Berlin, ten partners from five European countries aim to optimize the permeability between professional and academic qualifications in both the elderly and medical care sector. In the center is a transnational as well as national improvement of specialized staff supply in the care professions. The results developed in the project are meant to ease the transfer of activities from the professional training into activities with academic qualifications.

CLIC’s role hereby is the development of a method as well as a tool for the further development of the capacity for innovation of trainees in elderly care. In the long term the methods developed by CLIC are to be integrated into the lectures in the elderly care sector.

Due to this development, there are new challenges for both management practice and research. The currently published “Free Services” brochure of the Center for Leading Innovation & Cooperation (CLIC) is dedicated to this topic.

Based on the question “What can the e-world and the real world learn from each other?” the publication deals with theoretical and practical questions about the topic “free services”. Amongst other things it looks at if and how “classic” criteria and standards for the productivity of services can be applied to online services and which adjustments or extensions of methods and tools of productivity and success measurement need to be made. The focus hereby is on successful business models.

The publication was issued in the framework of the “Research Lab: Productivity of Services (ServProd)” (Forschungswerkstatt: Produktivität von Dienstleistungen) project. ServProd develops new concepts for the measurement and practice-oriented management models to increase service productivity.

A special thank you goes to the editors, Professor Ralf Reichwald and Professor Kathrin M. Möslein, as well as the authors, Eva Anderl, Armin März, Professor Jan Hendrik Schumann, Professor Florian von Wangenheim and Sebastian Ackermann.

A PDF-Version can be downloaded freely (German).

Jams, initially coined in the domain of Jazz music, are nowadays applied by various institutions as practice of innovation communities. Jams help to gather and strengthen the community and allow for seamless knowledge transfer to develop innovative concepts. Yet, the body of academic literature on jams is rudimentarily established and lacks a comprehensive understanding for this specific innovation practice. To close this gap, we investigate the Global Service Jam 2011 (GSJ11) as an emerging practice of innovation communities, which ran 48 hours from 11 to 13 March. Within this short time frame 1263 voluntary jammers, globally dispersed in 59 locations, created 203 innovative service concepts.
